Few people know that it was the Dutch who made it famous in the 16th century. Under the name of &#8220;olykoek&#8221; a doughnut made of dough and fried oil.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">However, it was not until the 17th century that it crossed the pond to the USA, where two Englishmen began to call it &#8220;doughnuts&#8221; (nut paste), achieving great success among the population.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It was in 1847 that Hanson Gregory, a US Marine, gave this sweet its definitive shape by removing the inside of the sweet.
